News of female harassment is constantly coming out. Governmental systems themselves are leading the way for people to resort to the kind of bloodletting and mass murder that is eye to eye rather than belief in the legal system. This is what we found in Hyderabad. These incidents raise the question of whether our country needs women's safety.
Hyderabad Police on Friday fired four suspects in connection with the rape and murder of a 27-year-old girl in Hyderabad. According to new government data, in 2017, more than 32,500 rape cases were registered with the police. Indian courts have settled only 18,300 cases of rape, with 127,800 cases pending at the end of 2017
India has been labeled as one of the worst places in the world for women to stay because of the brutal rape and violence against women who complain. Some of the cases the country has bowed over the past 46 years are:
1973: Aruna Shanbag, 26, nurses attacked a Mumbai hospital ward attendant during a night shift. Sohanlal Bharata Valmiki tried to chase them with chains. Aruna's coma became a disconnected oxygen supply to the brain. Shanbag died in 2015 after suffering a stroke for more than 40 years. The accused Sohanlal Bharata Valmiki was later convicted and jailed.
1986: Police fire a lathi charge and shootings on October 21 following a dispute over a bus service at Thankamani, a village in Kamakshi Grama Panchayath in Idukki district. There were complaints that a group of policemen had come to the village that night and raped several women.
1990: Dhananjay Chatterjee rapes and kills a 14-year-old girl in Kolkata. Chatterjee was sentenced to death and hanged in 2004.
1995: Jaipur court convicts five men accused of gang-raping a lowly Dalit woman, Banwari Devi, who was working on a women's development project in Rajasthan. Subsequently, the application to the Supreme Court later led to the implementation of the Visakha Guidelines. The guideline is to protect women against sexual harassment in the workplace.
1995: A man offers to work and sexually abuses an underage girl who lives in Vidura. The boy was rescued but before that, people in various places raped the child several times.
1996: Law student raped and strangled to death in Delhi Santosh Kumar Singh, son of a law student and former senior police officer, was sentenced to death in this case. After being acquitted due to a lack of evidence, he was tried again following a public protest.
1996: Kidnapped and raped a 16-year-old girl in Suryanelli, Kerala. The girl was abducted by a man who promised her marriage. Of the 42 accused, 37 were raped for 40 days.
2001: Manjeri February, thirteen-year-old girl was raped elankur school quiz ZA tortured and killed Mohammed Koya way they kunnum'mal. The girl's father was murdered on July 27, 2002. The High Court acquitted the girl's father for lack of evidence.
2009: A 25-year-old Pune IT company employee was killed by gang-rape on October 7. The accused were sentenced to death, but now the appeals are pending with the Supreme Court.
2011: This is the incident where a girl was killed after being assaulted on a train ride on February 1. The girl was assaulted in the women's compartment of a train traveling from Ernakulam to Shornur. Govindachamy from Tamil Nadu threw the girl out of the train and raped her.
2012: A 23-year-old student was assaulted and gang-raped on a bus in the capital, New Delhi. The girl was seriously injured in the brutal attack. Five men and a juvenile were arrested - four were sentenced to death and one was hanged during the trial. After completing three years in a juvenile home, ൦ released the juvenile. After this case, the authorities reinforced their convictions for sex crimes and began fast trials of rape cases.
2016: This is the incident where a 29-year-old law student was raped and murdered in Perumbavoor, Kerala. Her mother Rajeshwari was found dead at 8.30 pm on April 28. The guilty verdict was sentenced to death by Amirul Islam.
2017: Two sisters, aged thirteen and nine, found hanging in a 52-day interval in Valayar. The autopsy reports of the children showed that they had been abused.
January 2018: An eight-year-old Muslim girl from Kathua town, Jammu and Kashmir, was held hostage in a temple after she was drugged and sexually abused for a week. Six were convicted, including one Hindu priest and three policemen. Three were sentenced to life imprisonment.
May 2018: Police arrest two youths from Panatura village in Kerala for the rape and murder of a Latvian tourist.
July 2018: Eighteen people have been charged in Chennai for repeatedly raping a 12-year-old girl in a vacant apartment in seven months after she was drugged.
October 2018: Catholic Bishop Franco Bullock has been arrested in Kerala after a nun accused him of repeatedly raping her in two years.
July 2019: Uttar Pradesh legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar, accused of raping her in 2017, was seriously injured in an accident on the National Highway and her truck hit a truck. The woman's two aunts were also killed in the car. Sengar denied any involvement in the car accident.
November 28, 2019: The remains of a 27-year-old veterinary doctor, who was raped and burnt, were found in a flyover near Hyderabad. Four men have been arrested on suspicion of gang rape and murder. The arrested were shot dead by police.
December 5, 2019: Another girl in Unnao, a rape victim, sets fire to a group of defendants. The girl was assaulted when she went to court to hear the case.
There are so many cases hundreds and thousands of them which were not reported or not flow out into the media.
